Arcane Vocabulary: Crepuscule

A very ugly word (kruh-PUSS-kyool) meaning a very pretty thing: twilight.  It comes to us from Latin; the French word for twilight is also “crepuscule” (with an acute accent on the first e).  The sound of the word’s no prettier in French, so perhaps it’s for the best that French editions of the Stephenie Meyer series have retained the English title.  Or not, depending on your opinion of Twlight.
